Tigridia Pavonia

An evergreen woody perennial creating a large arching bush with age. We have found it to easily withstand short periods of 15F and, as of yet, no pests or diseases. 2" light pink saucer-shaped blooms, with a burgundy eye, are borne from spring to fall.

Considered an annual in all other zones. A close relative of the iris, these 3-6" wide blooms appear on straight, green blades. Perfect for planting in containers and hardy in zones 8-10.

The narrow red bracts, reaching skyward, reveal the rolled purple flowers and its protruding stamen. This shiny leafed mallow has an upright growth habit, is easy to grow and responds well to hard pruning.

The flowers in the cluster open singly over a period of days. Native to the south central portion of the U.S. and is fairly common in Long-Leaf Pine forests of that region. A durable native that grows from a small corm and goes dormant in fall and winter.

Do not cut into the tuber or bulb as this can invite disease and encourage insects. Dig up the bulb or other storage organ carefully with a garden fork. Roots come from the hard interior called the basal plate.
