Shade the flats on sunny, warm days if necessary to keep the soil surface cool, below 75°F (24°C), until germination. We recommend using pelleted seed within one year of purchase.

Long leaves, 4-6 in. Vivian is a tightly bunched romaine, 12-16 in. Erect dark green leaves are great for baby leaf production. Across with broad dark green crisp leaves, bolt resistant, suitable for commercial growers.

Parris Island Cos is a tall, compact, dark-green romaine lettuce. Slightly curly leaves with creamy-white hearts. Seeds go dormant at temperatures above 85°F. Can be started early indoors or directly in the garden.

Organically grown. High resistance to downy mildew races 1–16, 19, 21, 23. Defender's leaves are more rounded, darker green and more attractive compared to Parris Island. Optimum germination results at soil temperatures of 60-68°F (16-20°C).
