I previously bought the bell shaped seed. The birds would stand on the flared part and eat the top causing the bottom of the bell to fall off the hanger. The bars are on a different type of holder with more internal places attached.

EXCELLENT feeder if you have a lot of birds like we do! :) I have this exact one that I bought 6 yrs ago. I could not be more satisfied. It held up very well but now needed replaced so I ordered a new one.
