The birds (and chipmunks and squirrels) used it right away. It's very sturdy. I needed to replace one of my old feeders because of bear damage and gave this feeder a try. I bought this to attract more ground feeding birds Cardinals to my yard.

Switched from loose seed to this and have much less waste on the ground; in fact NO WASTE. All sorts of species come and feed and I have 6 up at a time, making this an economical way to feed my feather friends.

I brought this for the first time, about a month ago. Birds didn't seem to care, eat around them. The squirrels where so funny trying to sit on it to eat. Loved watching all the birds enjoy it.

I also closed off half the holes and modified the remaining ones to starling resistant crescent shaped then doubled the size of cavities inside which should be 6 x 6 x 12 not 6 x 6 x 6.

Unfortunately the squirrels got the lid off. Very disappointing. Thought it was a great feeder until the squirrels figured it out. It however does not work with the little red squirrels.
