The meaty tomatoes are not the prettiest around but they get up to 1-2 pounds in size. Called the "Mortgage Lifter" because, in the 1920s, William Estler in Virginia was able to avert bankruptcy by selling enough plants to pay off his mortgage.

Does well in large containers. It is slow to bolt so the harvest period can last months. Leaves 20cm/10" or shorter are best. It is vigorous, tolerates heat and cold, and even tolerates partial shade.

Requires a long hot growing season. (Hibiscus) Lovely flowers known throughout the tropics for their flavouring qualities. Refreshing hot or iced. Tea made with the fleshy calyces has a lemony flavour and beautiful ruby colour.

Indeterminate vines. But when picked green just before frost, the fruits keep for up to 4 months, and the flavour improves with storage. Kim at Richters grew it in her garden and says that it is very prolific: one or two plants are all that is needed.

Has intermediate resistance to fusarium. This is a nice compact Genovese basil well suited for pot production and for fresh cut use in the field. High yields and slow to bolt. Large, dark green glossy leaves on thick sturdy stems.
