Prefers moist, partly shady locations but will grow in full sun. The leaves look a lot like Italian flat-leaf parsley. Used to season soups, poultry, meats, noodles, salads, and dumplings.

Pale lilac flowers give a lovely show in mid and late summer, and attract butterflies. It is a low creeper, but we hesitate to call it that because it is not aggressive like other creeping thymes.

Small dark leaves; compact somewhat trailing habit. Ideal for hanging baskets. Self-sows readily.

Camphor-rosemary scent. (Spanish lavender) The standard form with narrow, grey downy leaves and dark violet flowers.

Root powder is valuable as a fixative in potpourris. Esteemed in India as a vermifuge and insecticide, especially for fleas. This is the North American variety which lacks the carcinogen, cis-isoasarone, found in European varieties.

The oil is antiseptic, expectorant and antispasmodic, and with its cooling, stimulating character, it is very popular in aromatherapy. Oil added to a spray bottle of water or to a humidifier can be used to disinfect the air.

Does well in containers, producing an early crop of figs as soon as growth starts in spring. The sweet strawberry flesh is excellent, and the figs keep well. It is a reliable producer of delicious small purple figs.

Has the same insect-repelling properties as other tansies. Soft downy woolly-grey leaves are soon overwhelmed by a shroud of white flowers -- so much so that you almost cannot see the leaves.

The scent is light and flowery and has little of the camphor notes found in other lavandins. The oil yield lower than other lavandins but the quality is much higher. Widely used in soaps and in aromatherapy.
