Tolerant of a wide range of soils from well-drained sandy soils to the heavy clays present in much of the St. Louis area. Not much fall color, with blades eventually turning straw-beige by winter.

We highly recommend that you mulch your Pennisetum Hameln with either a ground hardwood mulch or a ground cypress mulch depending on your local availability. It's a matter of personal choice whether you cut back your ornamental grasses in fall or spring.
