- Flowers: Non-branching, single stem, one large blossom on top. Large, 12-24 inches in diameter. Protruding center dome, surrounded by old-fashioned, wavy, wide petals of up to six inches in length.
- Other Names: Sometimes called The Giant or Titanic.
- Soil: Grows in nearly any soil, native to the alkaline soils of the Southwest United States.
- Pests and Diseases: Sunflowers attract aphids like crazy. This can be used as a way to control aphids on other plants, by planting them nearby as a sacrificial barrier. Root fungus can be a problem in wet areas. Attracts carpenter bees, hummingbirds and solitary bees.
