The success of a muskie stocking program has only added to this lake's reputation. Lake Vermilion in Minnesota is ranked as one of the state's premier fisheries with the focus on walleye, northern pike, smallmouth bass, perch and bluegill.

Northern pike are far in numbers, and look for 5-7 inch bluegills and 6-12 inch crappie. Best known for a good bass population, there are plenty of 3+ pound fish to be caught in North Long Lake.

It is also famous for its fall sturgeon action. Holcombe Flowage is one of Wisconsin's best lakes for walleye, muskie and crappie.

In summer, gamefish and panfish can be lured from the weed pockets and weed edges. Early May and June are best for all species on this 2,409 acre lake. Weed growth is not a problem at this time and the majority of the action is shallow.

Northern pike, largemouth bass, perch and bluegill are also present in good numbers. Lake Winnebago in Winnebago County, Wisconsin is known throughout the country for its lake sturgeon spearing season.

Lake Onalaska, the largest lake in Pool 7, encompasses 7,700 acres. Pool 7 encompasses 13,440 acres starting from Lock and Dam 6 and ending at Lock and Dam 8 at 11.8 miles in length and 639 feet above MSL (mean sea level).

Rock bass provide a lot of action. Miltona is an excellent walleye lake. Large northerns are present and stocked muskie are now in the 30-pound range.

Many believe there is a world record in these waters. Minnesota's Leech Lake boasts world class muskie. A 52 pound class release is recognized as the state's second largest recorded.
