Tidy, clump-forming plants require little or no maintenance. Plus, the fully double, spurless blooms eventually turn to a clean white, creating even more interest both in the garden and in the vase.

Equally suited for containers, columbines will thrive in a moist, well-drained soil. Large blue, rose and white flowers bloom early on compact plants. Rising above the foliage, the 3 1/2" uniquely shaped flowers add a graceful air to the perennial garden.

This is probably not the true Aquilegia chrysantha var. Morning sun and filtered midday shade seem to optimum making this a good choice for east facing sites that are shaded in the hottest portion of the day in hot summer climate regions.
