The stock tires on my Golf R were grippy but the you could feel the sidewall start to let go at high G's and that made you lose confidence. I had them replaced with a completely different brand of tires.

I put these on a truck that runs in rock and sand on the ranch and at the mines. This is the best tire to have,total piece of mind in bad weather. I have always had cooper ties.But for rain sleet and snow the cooper m/s grip like no other tire.driving...

The Cooper Discoverer A/T3 has been a good choice for this, particularly in the snow. On our way out was a very steep hill, was able to get up and out of there. The only issue I've had is the road noise.
